Just 19 miles north of Grand Rapids, Sparta is a village in the township of Sparta. This small community is proud of its roots in agriculture and continues the tradition of farming today. Sparta is surrounded by calm fields and orchards with farmers markets and fruits stands galore. Sparta Town and Country Days is a five-day event featuring carnival rides, live music, fireworks, and more. Indulge in apple concoctions of every kind, cider competitions, and Johnny Appleseed games at the Michigan Apple Fest, Sparta’s huge celebration of one of its most popular crops. Sparta is packed with small-town charm but also offers quick access to Grand Rapids, which is only 22 minutes away.
