Easton's story stretches back to 1694, when Clement Briggs became the town's first settler, establishing a home near what is now Easton Green. The town incorporated officially in 1725, and by the 19th century, the Ames family's Oliver Ames and Sons shovel company had grown into a dominant regional industry, producing tools used during the California Gold Rush and the construction of the transcontinental railroad.
