Sheppard Air Force Base is located about six miles north of Downtown Wichita Falls, and is known for being the largest and most diverse training center in the Air Force. Home to the 82nd Training Wing, also known as “Logistics University”, Shepard houses the largest technical training operation in the Air Force as well. Similar to many military bases, Sheppard AFB offers a variety of amenities on base including a bowling alley, a fitness center, a dog park, a paintball field, a movie theater, and chain restaurants. There are more options for shopping and dining right outside the base as well along Burkburnett Road and Sheppard Access Road. Great for military families and employees, there are a variety of affordable housing options near the base as well. For a change of scenery or a nice weekend trip, Dallas and Fort Worth are only two hours away.
