The neighborhood's namesake green space was designed by the firm of Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect best known for Central Park, and has served as a community gathering place since the early 1900s. The former Carnegie Library within the park offers a second layer of historical texture. Originally built as part of Andrew Carnegie's early-twentieth-century library philanthropic effort, the building now functions as a community center, giving the neighborhood a landmark whose walls hold more than a hundred years of local use.
