Founded in 1888 by the United Methodist Church, the University of Puget Sound is the only independent national undergraduate liberal arts college in western Washington. Tacoma, known as the City of Destiny, is home to a mixture of low-key cafes, highbrow art museums, and laidback music venues. Outdoor activities are especially prevalent with access to Mount Rainier, rainforests, and the ocean. Downtown Seattle is less than an hour’s drive away as well.
