Within sight of the Mexican border, the University of Texas at El Paso is a truly one-of-a-kind institution, with excellent academic and research capabilities and an eclectic confluence of cultures combining to give the university an atmosphere unlike any other. One of the most distinctive features of the campus is the unique Himalayan-style architecture of the major university buildings, inspired by the local desert landscape’s visual similarity to parts of Bhutan (the campus is also home to the Chenrezig Himalayan Cultural Center).
Rental rates near campus tend to be very affordable, with apartments, condos, and houses available on the east side of the university. The northeast side in particular offers excellent access to the main campus as well as the popular eateries along Mesa Street and the large parks nearby, particularly Billy Rogers Arroyo.
