Adjacent to Vanderbilt University in Downtown Nashville, Belmont University is the second-largest private university in Tennessee -- right behind its neighbor. Belmont University is a Christian university founded in 1890. It features several historic buildings, including Acklen Hall, once known as the Belmont Mansion. This 36-room, antebellum plantation was built in 1850 and today serves as a museum. The Belmont Bruins participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Bruins baseball, soccer, and softball teams play at E.S. Rose Park. The Bruins basketball team is rivals with Lipscomb University, also located in Nashville. The game they play twice a year is called the "Battle of the Boulevard" because of the single road that connects the two schools. When looking for apartments near Belmont University, look in the neighborhoods surrounding the university, such as Belmont/Hillsboro, Wedgewood-Houston, Melrose, 12 South, and Music Row. To enjoy the collegiate atmosphere of both Vanderbilt and Belmont, look along 21st Avenue South, which extends between the two schools.
