Farmingdale State College is a historic institution that has served the state of New York since 1912, and is the largest of SUNY’s technology colleges. Hicks Hall and Cutler Hall, two of the oldest buildings on campus, both feature huge Depression-era WPA murals in their halls. The college has garnered new attention recently for its research into renewable energy at the state of the art Solar Energy Center. Living near Farmingdale State will put you in the quiet suburbs of central Long Island. The campus sits just off the eastern end of the Bethpage State Park golf course; the surrounding area is mostly filled with retail and small businesses, with a few popular restaurants and neighborhood bars scattered around. Georgio’s is a great place to pick up a cup of coffee in the morning, and Changing Times Pub is right across the street from the campus for an after-hours drink. When you’re looking to get out of town for a little while, New York Coty and the island’s beaches are easily within day-trip distance.
