The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Louisville, KY

An American landmark of religious education

Private Christian Religious

Founded in 1859, the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary is the oldest seminary of the Southern Baptist Convention. The seminary has been a fixture in Louisville since moving here in 1877; with over 5,000 students enrolled, it is one of the world’s largest seminaries, and operates the nation’s largest PhD program in religion. The Southern campus sits in the suburbs just east of Downtown Louisville. Mostly surrounded by quiet residential neighborhoods, there are many nearby apartments, houses, and condos within easy walking distance. A small cluster of shops and restaurants along Frankfort Avenue serves as a popular off-hours destination for the campus crowd, and several city parks in the area provide beautiful locations for enjoying the tranquility of nature. Multiple golf courses are nearby as well, and the parks overlooking the Ohio River offer even more great excuses to get outdoors.
