The Westville campus of Purdue University Northwest forms one half of the Purdue System’s newest member facility— formerly known as Purdue University North Central, it merged with Purdue University Calumet in 2016 to create a new unified institution. The university’s Westville campus is home to a veterinary emergency center as well as the popular Shakespeare’s Garden with its tranquil pond. The nearby town of Westville is a rural community of around 6,000 people, a few minutes south of the Indiana Dunes and the Lake Michigan shoreline. While relatively isolated, there are a few apartments within walking distance of the PNW campus, and many more options just up the road in the Michigan City area. Michigan City is also where you’ll find the most nearby shopping, dining, nightlife, and entertainment options—the south side of town near Franklin Street features a large cluster of retail shops, restaurants, and a multiplex movie theater. When you’re looking for a change of scenery, Chicago is only an hour up Interstate 90.
