As a joint campus shared by two of the Midwest’s most prestigious institutions, Indiana University – Purdue University, Indianapolis combines the two schools’ significant academic and research potential with the resources of Indiana’s biggest city to create a powerhouse collegiate environment. IUPUI operates the largest nursing school and the second-largest medical school in the nation, as well as Indiana’s only dentistry school.
The university’s major medical facilities and the School of Dentistry sit on the west side of campus, so if you’ll be spending a lot of time in these areas you may want to seek living arrangements across the river in Haughville or near the Indianapolis Zoo (three bridges connect this section of the city to the campus). The university is sandwiched between the White River and Downtown, with Mile Square and the trendy Wholesale District just a few blocks away; this makes it easy to walk to the city center for a bite to eat at Spoke and Steele, a drink at Yard House, or a football game at Lucas Oil Stadium.
As of August 2025, the average apartment rent in Indianapolis, IN is $976 for a studio, $1,121 for one bedroom, $1,324 for two bedrooms, and $1,532 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Indianapolis has increased by 1.7% in the past year.
