Located next to the Des Plaines River in Romeoville, Lewis University covers 410 acres and features its own airport. This private, Catholic university is one of the largest private universities in Illinois and it ranks as one of the best universities in the Midwest region. It is well-known for its award-winning aviation program, which includes a Boeing 737 jet for clinical experiences and a full-size CFM-56 turbo fan engine. Lewis University Airport borders the campus on the west side. The sports teams are known, fittingly, as the Lewis Flyers. The Flyers compete in NCAA Division II as part of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. This top-tier university is roughly 30 miles southwest of Downtown Chicago, with I-55 providing a direct route into the city.
