The sprawling, suburban campus of Southern Illinois State University Edwardsville is located about 20 miles northeast of Saint Louis, Missouri. This public university was established in 1957 to address a need -- a lack of higher education in the region. Today, the university offers 65 undergraduate degree programs and 49 graduate degree programs. The campus, which covers 2,660 acres, is one of the largest (by area) campuses in the country. The campus is attractive with plenty of trees, lakes, and rolling hills for students to enjoy.
The SIUE Cougars compete in NCAA Division I, offering eight varsity teams in sports that include basketball, baseball, and soccer. Cheer on the Cougars at Vadalabene Center for basketball, the Roy E. Lee Field at Simmons Baseball Complex for baseball, and Ralph Korte Stadium for soccer. The men's soccer team is especially strong, holding several national championships. Be sure to visit the Athletics Hall of Fame to learn more about SIUE's outstanding athletes.
As the county seat for Madison County, Edwardsville is a picture-perfect community and a terrific little college town. Incorporated in 1818, Edwardsville is the state's third-oldest city. Living near SIUE, you'll be able to enjoy such features as parks, the Edwardsville Arts Center, and the Madison County Transit Trails, which include over 125 miles of scenic bike paths that lead through campus and into neighborhoods, parks, and neighboring cities. If you wish to have easy access to the trails, look along Stadium Drive, Circle Drive, Recreation Drive, and Cougar Lake Drive for your SIUE area apartment.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
