Where will you find one of the nation's best, most interesting colleges? According to the Fiske Guide to Colleges (2017), you'll have to head to Tucson and the University of Arizona. As the first university in the Arizona Territory, UA was founded in 1885. Today, it is one of the largest universities in the state, and the Arizona Wildcats participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Pac-12 Conference. Some of the university's top majors include marketing, biomedical sciences, biology, and business, and it operates two top-rated medical schools. As a top-tier research university, UA has a long list of impressive graduates, including comedian Garry Shandling, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, Today Show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, talk show host Geraldo Rivera, movie director John Hughes, actress Nicole Richie, 11-time Grammy-award-winning singer Linda Ronstadt, and Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr. The urban campus covers 392 acres in the heart of Tucson, just a couple of blocks from downtown. To be within walking distance of Arizona Stadium, where you'll want to cheer on the Wildcats football team, look for apartments along East 6th Street between Euclid Avenue and Campbell Avenue. To be closer to the University of Arizona Museum of Art and the Fred Fox School of Music, look along Speedway Boulevard. For rentals near Banner-University Medical Center Tucson Campus, the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, look along North Campbell Avenue, south of Elm Street. Nearby neighborhoods to consider include Rincon Heights, Iron Horse, West University, North University, Feldman's, and El Cortez.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
