There a lot of government owned parks around here, it just takes a little driving from the main area of where I am to get to them. Drives can vary from 10 to 30 minutes, but there is a very large selection of parks and nature filled places to go to. The national zoo is just a few train stops away and is a great place to go and see wildlife, and there are multiple botanical gardens to see plants. Pollution is not really an issue around here, the county is good with keeping up with litter and preventing their own pollution as much as possible.
