It remains an unincorporated community governed by Santa Rosa County, which means residents experience a more low-key civic structure rather than a city hall with its own mayor and council.

Navarre Beach occupies Santa Rosa Island, a barrier island that borders the Gulf Islands National Seashore to the west. That federal designation has preserved much of the shoreline in a natural state, giving the beach a character distinctly different from more developed Panhandle strips. The Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center keeps that preservation spirit alive through community-run beach clean-up events throughout the year.

Navarre is most well-known for its casual Gulf Coast flavors, with waterfront spots along Santa Rosa Sound offering outdoor patio seating and fresh catch from local waters. The Navarre Seafood Market is a go-to source for Gulf shrimp straight from local fishermen, and TC's Front Porch across from Navarre Park draws regulars for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Navarre combines 12 miles of uncrowded Gulf Coast shoreline, the longest fishing pier in Florida, and strong employment anchors -- all within a relaxed, largely residential setting. The Gulf Islands National Seashore preserves natural beach on the western edge, and the growing dining and retail scene along Highway 98 adds everyday convenience without changing the area's easygoing character.
