Montrose’s Main Street looks like it could almost be anywhere, but the landscape that surrounds this Colorado town is anything but derivative. Set between Black Canyon and Uncompahgre National Forest, Montrose provides access to some of the most pristine wilderness the Southwest has to offer.
It’s an alluring place to live too. Residential areas spread out from the center of town, offering up ranch style homes and plenty of parks. There are apartments dotted all around the landscape too, some with amazing views of the mountains. If you don’t feel like hiking you can always spend an afternoon at Horsefly Brewing Company or any of the other popular spots on Townsend Ave.
Montrose is quite secluded, but there is a regional airport that makes domestic travel much easier.
As of November 2025, the average apartment rent in Montrose, CO is $1,255 for a studio, $1,549 for one bedroom, $1,725 for two bedrooms, and $2,466 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Montrose has increased by 3.2% in the past year.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
