Maplewood Coral Springs - Coral Springs, FL Area Guide

Maplewood's city of Coral Springs became official in 1963. At the time, the area only housed nature without any historical buildings or roads to build around, so Coral Ridge Properties was able to design the city as a planned community. Coral Springs grew significantly in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, especially when the Sawgrass Expressway came in 1986. The neighborhood doesn't house any art venues, but you can visit the nearby Coral Springs Center for the Arts, which puts on shows, such as music and dance productions, in its theater. The Coral Springs Museum of Art holds classes in addition to its exhibits and the Museum of Coral Springs History, one of the first buildings in the city, displays historic exhibits. The city hosts numerous annual events and festivals, including the Coral Springs Festival of the Arts, the long-running Our Town America Festival and the Fiesta Coral Springs festival.

Within the neighborhood, Maplewood Plaza contains chain fast-food restaurants such as Burger King and Dunkin Donuts. Other than that, you have Big Anthony & Guido's, which will deliver pizzas to your door, including unique specialty flavors such as its chicken marsala pizza. You can also eat in its restaurant or enjoy the Florida weather at one of its outdoor tables.

You find the main restaurant location of the area on University Drive, right next to this neighborhood. A quick drive brings you to a host of chain restaurants, as well as local options, which serve a lot of Asian and Italian cuisine. Wok to Go - Hong Kong Tong's BBQ provides regular Chinese takeout favorites, as well as BBQ pork featured in many dishes, including fried rice, lo mein, noodle soup and egg foo young. Sakura Sushi calls itself the "best sushi in town." In addition to sushi, enjoy many Japanese options at this restaurant, such as udon, tempura or katsu.

For nightlife in this area, you have bars in some of the local restaurants and Big Bear Brewing Co., a restaurant that serves its own beer and even uses it in some of the dishes. For clubs and music, residents travel to Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Some of the popular places there include YOLO with its bar and lounge, the Vibe lounge and dance club, and the bar Big City Tavern.

Residents mainly travel this neighborhood by car, although it doesn’t have public parking. You can also go to one of the bus stops in the neighborhood to take a bus around the city or beyond it. As you exit Maplewood on its east side, you find University Drive, which leads you to the Sawgrass Expressway, or you can take it to an east/west road that links to major roads I-95 and Florida’s Turnpike.

You can walk this neighborhood, although the large size prevents you from easily walking the whole way. When walking the area, you won’t find cabs to hail, but you can call a company to send a cab, or use Uber under its Miami offerings.

The neighborhood does not include biking lanes, although you can find them in nearby Cypress Park. Nonetheless, the city encourages safe roads for bikers with a campaign for drivers to provide 3 feet between their cars and bikers on the road.

The only park within the neighborhood, Dede Gilmore Memorial Park, has a playground that makes it a kid-friendly park, a tennis court and four acres for sports and walking. Just outside the neighborhood, you have Cypress Park, which provides plenty of exercise opportunities through its fitness track and its sports fields and courts. Nearby Richard D. Petrillo Park has open spaces with 5 acres of nature where you can play with your dogs and kids, in addition to the Coral Springs R.C. Car Track. These city parks do not host annual events, but you can enjoy their open spaces and amenities free of charge.

Coral Springs maintains numerous other parks outside this neighborhood. Its main park, the Sportsplex at Coral Springs, offers 180 acres of space with every type of activity you could imagine. Exercise at its tennis center, ice rink, tennis courts or aquatic complex. Take your dog to the Dr. Steven G. Paul Dog Park within its boundaries, and bring your children to its playground.

For a one-bedroom residence in Maplewood, you can expect to pay about $1,162 per month, which is less than the average in the city. You can take a bus to the city center for $1.75, and a beer at the local pub costs you about $4 or more for a craft brew. To fill your gas tank, you pay nine percent more than national gas prices.

The area around this neighborhood contains a lot of chain stores, with some high-end stores. Inside the neighborhood, Maplewood Plaza includes mostly chain stores such as Game Stop, T.J. Maxx, and Party City.

You are conveniently located near numerous shopping venues if you live in this neighborhood. A quick drive will take you to the Walk, an outdoor shopping mall with high-end stores and a Barnes & Noble bookstore. You are also located right near the Ramblewood Square shopping center and the Coral Square Mall. Some specialty stores in the area include the Art & Frame Center and the Bike America bike store.

For groceries, residents have their pick of nearby supermarkets, including Publix supermarket, Walmart Neighborhood Market, Whole Foods and Sam's Club. The city also has the Coral Springs Mega Green Market for fresh produce.
