Residents of Makakilo, Kapiolei, and Honokai Hale often pack a picnic and choose somewhere a bit quieter, such as Paradise Cove Public Beach or Barbers Point Beach Park, roughly a mile or two from home. Enjoy a round of golf at the local Kapolei Golf Course or the Ko Olina Golf Club, part of the upscale Ko Olina Resort area. Take advantage of the "kama'aina" (resident) rates and save a bundle at either course. Locals tend to hang out at Zippy's, open 24/7 and home to authentic Hawaiian fare. I lived in Kapolei for 7-9 years, it was where I grew up. The one downside I noticed was the distance away from town; we moved closer to town to be closer to my school and my parents work, the hour long car rides to and from were not cutting it. However, the community is great, the elementary schools are amazing/offer a lot of opportunities, there are a lot of out-of-school clubs available, and it just keeps expanding (the malls and shops).

A thriving community on the west side of Oahu, Kapolei is one of the best cities on the island for families.

Living in the newer parts of Kapolei has been great, especially seeing all the development of a new city being built right next to it.

Kapolei is a busy town where homeless people, bus riding people, and drivers are all busily getting to places. I would like to see a change of pace where the streets and sidewalks are free and it happens to be a ghost town. What I would keep the same is the diversity of people living wealthily enough to not have to steal from 7-eleven and lay in the bushes with their tents.
