When the South Florida Railroad arrived in 1883, the settlement then known as Lake Locke became a stop along one of Central Florida's earliest rail corridors. The broader Orlando metro area registers overall living costs meaningfully below the national average, with housing costs especially favorable and healthcare and transportation expenses both coming in below national norms. Loughman Crossing, less than a mile from the community's center, is the most convenient option for day-to-day errands that is reachable in just a few minutes by car. The US 17/92 corridor, equally close, adds another strip of suburban retail including convenience stops and service businesses.

For a wider range of stores, the Shoppes at Reunion is about four miles away. Retail here is plaza-based and spread across several nearby corridors rather than concentrated in a single walkable downtown district.
