Take I-77 from Downtown Cleveland and you’ll arrive in Independence in about 15 minutes. This suburban city provides more than easy commutes, however. Independence borders Cuyahoga Valley National Park, a 32,572-acre park that includes the historic Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath, a hiking trail that follows the historic route of the canal built between 1825 and 1832. In addition to several must-do hiking trails, the park is popular for canoeing and kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, and winter activities that include snowshoeing, snow tubing, skiing, sledding, and ice fishing.

Residents of Independence have a variety of options when it comes to shops and restaurants. Rockside Road and Brecksville Road are both lined with shopping plazas, restaurants, and businesses. Be sure to check out local favorites like Melt Bar and Grilled, Slyman’s Tavern, and Winking Lizard Tavern.
