Situated in Collier County, Immokalee is a small agricultural town whose name translates to “My Home” in the Mikasuki language spoken by the Seminole and Miccosukee tribes in southern Florida.
Immokalee produces an array of crops, including the overwhelming majority of the nation’s tomatoes during the winter months. As a result of its rich agriculture industry, Immokalee contains an exceptional local farmer’s market.
Immokalee is home to many immigrant and migrant families who work the vast fields in the area. The community’s diversity is reflected in the multicultural markets, shops, and eateries strewn along Main Street.
Lake Trafford and a number of parks and trails provide plenty of options for outdoor recreation in Immokalee. Close proximity to the Everglades ensures abundant opportunities for adventure and viewing all kinds of wildlife. Larger cities like Naples and Fort Myers are both within an hour’s drive of Immokalee as well.
