Hibbing, MN Area Guide

From world-famous musicians to the world’s largest iron ore deposit – this is Hibbing

Musician Minnesota Library Adventures Airport

Built atop a massive iron ore deposit, the city of Hibbing is home to the largest open-pit iron mine in the world and world-famous singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Commuting is a breeze for locals, thanks in large part to Highway 169, Route 37, and Route 73. Range Regional Airport is just off Route 73 and offers travelers daily flights to Minneapolis.

The city was founded in 1893 by Frank Hibbing – though its present day location is actually two miles south of where it had been originally settled. The childhood home of Bob Dylan is a popular destination for fans of the musician and Nobel Prize-winner. You can walk by his house on the town’s Bob Dylan Walking Tour, and view his collection of work at the local library. Residents not only get to enjoy the fun in their own city, but can also experience the good times and adventures at Sax Zim Bog nature preserve, George Washington State Forest, and Lake Superior. Hibbing is 76 miles north of Duluth.
