Starting along the Rouge River and following Michigan Avenue to Greenfield Road, the Henry Ford/Fairlane Town Center is a busy neighborhood, containing both the University of Michigan-Dearborn and the Fairlane Town Center Mall. This neighborhood is on the west side of Dearborn, roughly 10 miles west of Detroit. The Historic Ford Estates is located in the neighborhood, along with the Henry Ford Medical Center, Henry Ford College Dearborn, and the world headquarters of the Ford Motor Company. The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation and Greenfield Village, or just the Henry Ford, is a national landmark district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the nation's largest indoor/outdoor museum, attracting nearly two million visitors a year. Among its exhibits, you'll find JFK's limousine, the Rosa Parks bus, the Wright Brother's bicycle shop, and Abraham Lincoln's chair from Ford's Theater. First settled in 1786, Dearborn has long played a role in the nation's history, and the Henry Ford/Fairlane Town Center highlights much of that history -- especially in the city's role as a hub for the auto industry.
