Glen Eden was once part of the town of Mount Eden, established by Kentucky farmers who moved west during the Gold Rush. Harvesting salt formed a large part of the economy of this small town, as did the shipping industry. The town was incorporated into Hayward in the 1950s, but many places still bear the name Eden as a reminder of the area's history.
