South Carolina’s sweet, friendly rural town convenient to Colombia

Close-Knit Family-Friendly Rural Commuter

Elgin is a small rural town that values southern hospitality. Named an All-America Town, Elgin is an intimate community of friends, family, and neighbors dedicated to helping one another. The biggest efforts are seen in the winter and fall months when the town hosts donation drives like Toys for Tots. The town is very quiet but gets busy during the regionally famed Catfish Stomp. This annual festival is the biggest of the year, drawing people from across the county to enjoy pageants, a parade, gospel singing, and delicious catfish stew. The Catfish Stomp is held at Potter Community Park each year. The park also hosts other small-town events year-round.

Elgin is in a great location for commuters. The country town is only 20 minutes to Camden and 30 minutes to Columbia, giving quick access to attractions, restaurants, shopping centers, and nightlife spots. Only 12 minutes away, award-winning Village at Sandhill offers department stores, chain restaurants, and a movie theater. Although Elgin is certainly a prime area for commuters looking to rent an apartment in a calm area, it’s an all-around great place for those who want to escape the busy lifestyle that comes with city living.
