Central West End’s European vibe is on display everywhere you look, from the classic architecture and layout to the charming parks and gardens to the open-air cafes and bistros that line the streets. The most dominant landmark is the sprawling Forest Park with its trails, sports facilities, lush greenery, and famous zoo – it’s a perfect community backyard for the families and urban professionals who call CWE home. The neighborhood’s elaborate Halloween celebrations and Labor Day Greek Festival are immensely popular, drawing people from all over the city. Art galleries and performance venues are popular draws as well, and the neighborhood enjoys a healthy yet subdued nightlife scene.
While located at the heart of one of the region’s biggest cities, Central West End is mostly residential, with most of the landscape filled with single-family homes. Apartments tend to be very affordable, and rental houses tend to be quite reasonable as well. Metro service makes it easy to reach anywhere in the city, but many folks enjoy the convenience of being able to walk to work; with the prestigious Washington University School of Medicine and the BJC Medical Center right nearby, Central West End is an ideal place for healthcare professionals.
As of June 2025, the average apartment rent in Central West End is $1,001 for a studio, $1,447 for one bedroom, $1,875 for two bedrooms, and $3,043 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Central West End has increased by 1.2% in the past year.

Nice night life , great walkability but safety is an issue . Lots of cars being broken into , people being robbed in broad day light . Expensive as well , pretty bad that a house costs at least half a million yet the schools are aweful ! Can't raise a family here without sending to private school ( I guess if you half the money to live here then it isn't an issue ) .

This is a quiet community. Lots of little shops that are well within walking distance. Forest Park is just about a mile away which gives an abundance to do.

I like the tree lined streets. Forest Park is 1 block away from my building. The metro rail is directly behind my building. What I'd like to see change: free off street parking for residents and outdoor social events when the weather is nice.
