Central West End’s European vibe is on display everywhere you look, from the classic architecture and layout to the charming parks and gardens to the open-air cafes and bistros that line the streets. The most dominant landmark is the sprawling Forest Park with its trails, sports facilities, lush greenery, and famous zoo – it’s a perfect community backyard for the families and urban professionals who call CWE home. The neighborhood’s elaborate Halloween celebrations and Labor Day Greek Festival are immensely popular, drawing people from all over the city. Art galleries and performance venues are popular draws as well, and the neighborhood enjoys a healthy yet subdued nightlife scene. While located at the heart of one of the region’s biggest cities, Central West End is mostly residential, with most of the landscape filled with single-family homes. Apartments tend to be very affordable, and rental houses tend to be quite reasonable as well. Metro service makes it easy to reach anywhere in the city, but many folks enjoy the convenience of being able to walk to work; with the prestigious Washington University School of Medicine and the BJC Medical Center right nearby, Central West End is an ideal place for healthcare professionals.
As of January 2026, the average apartment rent in Central West End is $1,007 for a studio, $1,455 for one bedroom, $1,891 for two bedrooms, and $3,095 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Central West End has increased by 1.0% in the past year.

I love the central west end! I am a young adult and this is my favorite area of St. Louis. The night life and restaurants in the area are amazing and I love that I can walk everywhere!

n/a just relocated I recently relocated from a large city and lived in a city that never shut down previously. There is a vast difference in the three environments. Having a variety of family activities help improve and keep family relationships. I noticed there are limited activities going on in the park. I wondered do you have movies in the park in late summer early fall? Housing prices vary in the area which make living in or close by feasible.

Nice night life , great walkability but safety is an issue . Lots of cars being broken into , people being robbed in broad day light . Expensive as well , pretty bad that a house costs at least half a million yet the schools are aweful ! Can't raise a family here without sending to private school ( I guess if you half the money to live here then it isn't an issue ) .

My immediate area feels safe but just a few blocks away I know there is a lot more crime so that can make me worry sometimes. During the day I feel completely fine but at night I am hyper aware of y surroundings.
