Carolina North - Chapel Hill, NC Area Guide

Your home in the forest

Wooded Outdoor Activities Commutes UNC Family-Friendly

Encircled by Homestead Road, Hillsborough Road, and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, a large portion of Carolina North consists of the Carolina North Forest, which sits in the center of the neighborhood. Horace Williams Airport is also located here, along Estes Drive. The neighborhood feels like an extension of the forest, with tall trees and winding lanes leading past single-family homes on large lots.

Carolina North Forest covers 750 acres and is considered part of the University of North Carolina's North Campus. While the university uses the forest for environmental, historical, and archaeological purposes, it is available for hiking and is considered one of the best hiking and mountain biking destinations in the region. Carolina North is a residential area, but you'll find ample shops, restaurants, banks and more along Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. Downtown Chapel Hill is less than two miles southeast and is home to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the North Carolina Botanical Garden, Franklin Street Market, and the Ackland Art Museum.
