After a flood in 1916 caused damage to part of the Biltmore Estate, the trustees of the George Vanderbilt Estate decided to sell of roughly 1,500 acres of the impacted lands along Hendersonville Road. Around 1920, the land was developed, and Biltmore Forest was officially chartered as a town in 1923. Today, this picturesque town is home to roughly 1,400 people.
