If you’re in school or coming from a different country don’t waste your hard-working money on this apartment. Living here is super expensive, and you have issues with almost everything. They do not care about how you feel if you pay your rent. They are rude and never follow up. They change their words to make things good for them and puts us students in a space where we can’t do nothing. Its already hard enough with studies, you do not want to feel like you're being treated bad as well.

Poor Living Conditions

Living at Carlyle Apartment Homes has been nothing short of a nightmare. The maintenance issues are constant, yet instead of addressing them, we’re bombarded with resident events that do nothing to solve the actual problems. To make matters worse, the office has now decided to close on Sundays, which makes no sense when people work during the week. This forces us to try to resolve issues during limited weekday hours or Saturdays, which is incredibly inconvenient. The office staff is unprofessional, and the communication is inconsistent. The assistant manager will provide one answer, only for the property manager to come in and change it. There’s no coordination, and it's frustrating when you’re just trying to get basic issues addressed. Their solution seems to be offering food at resident events, as if that somehow makes up for the ongoing problems, like having no elevators or water multiple times a week. I’ve even had to stay at my friends' places because of plumbing issues. We pay a premium to live here, yet the constant stress of dealing with these unresolved issues takes a toll, especially on my ability to focus on my studies. It’s disheartening to feel like no one is taking responsibility for making things better.

Frustrating

Living at The Carlyle apartment has been a frustrating experience. Despite paying a premium price, we constantly face issues with the building's amenities and maintenance. We're often misled about the functionality of amenities that are advertised as available, but in reality, they rarely work. The gym equipment is frequently out of order, the washers in the basement are often down, and there are persistent plumbing issues. The water is regularly shut off for repairs, and the constant need for fans due to plumbing fixes disrupts our sleep and daily activities. The elevator is also a major concern, and the property manager doesn't seem to be very helpful. Instead of addressing our concerns, she often just gives responses that don't resolve the underlying issues. As tenants paying a significant amount, we believe we should at least be able to enjoy our living space. It sometimes feels like our concerns are overlooked, possibly because we’re students, and that’s disappointing.

Can’t wait to leave .

Living at The Carlyle Apartments has been an incredibly stressful experience, especially while juggling university responsibilities. The management is extremely careless, it feels like their main goal is to get tenants in, and after that, they couldn’t care less. The property manager takes forever to address issues, and if you go to the office in person, you’ll be left waiting endlessly with no resolution. The assistant manager promises callbacks but never follows through, smiling as if he wants to help, only to disappear afterward. Meanwhile, they continue hosting events every month while major issues, like broken elevators and ongoing plumbing problems, remain unresolved. Their priorities are completely misplaced. As someone who has invested a lot of money to move to America, it’s incredibly disheartening to end up in an apartment where everything seems to go wrong. On the surface, The Carlyle looks nice, but actually living here is a different story. My water is constantly shut off, and I’ve had to deal with mice getting into my food. I can’t justify spending my parents’ hard-earned money on a place that doesn’t even feel like home. If you’re considering moving here, especially if you’re from another country or state, please think twice. This is not the living experience you deserve.

mouse and out of order palace

I would strongly advise against moving into The Carlyle Apartment Homes. Since I moved in, it has been extremely difficult to get any maintenance issues addressed. The apartment is old and suffers from significant pest problems, including mice and roaches. It’s become a major issue, as I can’t even keep trash in my apartment without pests appearing, no matter how clean I keep it. The amenities are also a disappointment. We can barely enjoy them, as so many things are always out of order. Whether it's the gym, the elevators, the washer in the basement, or the printer in the business lounge, something is always down. The amenities are essentially unusable, making it feel like a waste of my hard-earned money. I’ve received no real acknowledgment or remorse from management about the situation, which only adds to the frustration. I would not recommend this place to anyone based on my experience.

not great experience

I highly do not recommend Carlyle Apartments. I was initially impressed by the amenities and the friendly demeanor of the leasing office staff, but unfortunately, my experience has been far from positive. The staff is not helpful, and they don't address issues when they arise. The elevator is almost always out of service, with at least one of them being down every week. It's frustrating, especially since the building is several stories high. Additionally, the printer in the leasing office is almost always out of paper, and when you ask for it to be refilled, it seems like such an inconvenience for them. We have a beautiful sunroom with a perfect view, which is usually the most peaceful spot in the apartment, but it's hard to enjoy it when you can never make it to the top floor due to elevator problems. On top of that, we've experienced consistent maintenance issues, like flooding and plumbing problems, leaving us with days of repairs in our apartment. Water has been shut off multiple times, and it's just becoming unbearable. I can’t take it any longer. I'm honestly ready to leave.

Not worth it

I strongly advise against choosing the Carlyle Apartment Homes when moving to America, especially if you're looking for a place to truly feel at home. My experience here has been extremely stressful and has impacted me more than I anticipated. For instance, during the snowstorm, we had no heat, and contacting the leasing office has been nothing short of frustrating. Even when something gets fixed, it’s often only temporary, and the issue returns within a few days. What has been most difficult for me is that I’m locked into a year-long lease, thinking this would be a great place to stay based on the appealing pictures and advertised amenities. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. There have been times when I’ve had to call home to check if basic things are functioning, just to prepare myself mentally for what to expect. As a PhD student, it’s incredibly stressful to have to deal with these constant issues on top of everything else. I truly believed that a place like this would be more reliable, but instead, it’s been a waste of money and a huge source of stress.

Been here 5 years now and at first, I thought my apt. issues were par for the course in this area. However, after years now of hearing from coworkers about their living situations, I've learned the Carlyle has some of the highest rents in the area for apartment size and quality. It is really close to Hampden and JHU Homewood, and has rarer amenities like a parking garage. But many of those amenities used to justify the higher price point are often broken (elevators, elec. door locks, treadmills) and the building's age shows through persistent plumbing, mechanical, and pest/mold issues. It really needs a more concerted effort from management to completely resolve ongoing problems instead of the current approach of quick fixes. The staff on-site seem to try hard but are definitely overworked - the issues must stem from the building owners. Overall it has potential but you can find a similar experience for cheaper elsewhere.

Wouldn’t spend my money here

I strongly advise against moving here. The manager does not care about residents’ concerns, treating every issue as an inconvenience rather than a priority. It feels like they are fully aware of the building’s numerous problems but simply don’t care about addressing them. They rarely return phone calls or emails, and maintenance requests are consistently delayed. At times, we even receive emails instructing us not to submit work orders because they’re “backed up” which is absurd when dealing with serious apartment issues. During my years living here, I’ve had to involve my renter’s insurance twice due to problems caused by the building. The lack of responsiveness and accountability from the leasing office is unacceptable, and living here has been a complete waste of money. This review is long overdue, but I hope it helps others avoid the same frustrating experience. I currently still live here and can’t wait for my leasing to be up in a couple months . I WILL NOT RENEW

Terrible

My wife and I initially moved to the Carlyle Apartment Homes to be closer to Johns Hopkins University. At first, we thought it was the perfect decision due to the amenities and proximity to the school. However, don’t be fooled—there are far better apartment options near Johns Hopkins that offer a much better living experience. We moved out and have been so much happier ever since. Many of the concerns I’m about to share are echoed in other reviews, which only reinforces the validity of these issues: 1. Hidden Fees: The leasing office doesn’t disclose all the details upfront, leaving you stuck with unexpected charges when moving in—and even worse when moving out. 2. Frequent Water Shutoffs: This is one of the most frustrating issues. The water is constantly being turned off without notice due to “emergencies.” While I understand that emergencies happen, the frequency at Carlyle is unreasonable. I’ve lived in other apartments where water shutoffs were rare, but here, it feels constant. If the building’s infrastructure is that old, the management should either invest in better pipes or lower the rent to reflect the inconvenience. 3. Elevator Problems: The elevators are always breaking down, which is especially troubling if you’ve lived there for more than a few months. Getting stuck inside or having to carry groceries up several flights of stairs becomes a regular occurrence. 4. Pest Issues: The mouse and pest problems are severe. Every three months, the trash chute is closed off for extermination, but it doesn’t seem to help. The leasing office often blames residents for not keeping clean, but even as clean tenants, my wife and I dealt with mice and roaches daily. 5. Unhelpful Leasing Office: The property manager is unapproachable and unresponsive. Attempting to resolve issues with them is exhausting, as they seem more focused on hosting resident parties and upgrading furniture to improve appearances rather than addressing serious concerns. Living at Carlyle negatively impacted my academic performance and overall well-being. I often woke up to no hot water—or no water at all. My wife dreaded having to climb stairs with groceries due to the broken elevators, and the pest problems made us feel uncomfortable in our own home. Since moving out, we’ve found a better place and are finally at peace. I’m sharing this to help others avoid the same mistakes we made. I hope this review is helpful to anyone considering living at Carlyle.

I recently moved into a studio apartment at Carlyle Apartments and have had a mixed experience so far. On the positive side, the maintenance team is very responsive and efficient. Whenever I've had an issue, they’ve addressed it quickly, which is a huge relief. The price is also quite fair for the location and amenities offered. However, there has been a recurring pest problem that has been a bit frustrating. While management is aware and is trying to handle it, it's something that needs to be improved for a more comfortable living experience. Generally, the room is spacious and fantastic, with high-end electric facilities and bath. The community lounge and the pool are also highlights. However, there are still minor issues like dust in ventilation system, the water-consuming toilet and lack of lights in the room. After these are fixed, the apartment will be perfect.

Maintenance is professional and responsive. Mr Tommy is my fav of all time.Mr. Justino the porter is the sweetest kindest soul. Definitely miss Kayla and Esha but Melissa is a sweetheart and awesome to talk to. The apartments themselves could use some updating and like old buildings things could be better. But overall a good bldg and area. Theyve increased the amenities over the past year.

Carlyle is a really nice place to live! It's spacious, quiet, and clean with amazing views. It's near the rotunda and campus. The amenities are old and I sometimes have problems with them, but maintenance is pretty good with addressing any issues.

Nice Staff

The Carlyle leasing staff helped us picking the right unit for us. They have an array of units that can satisfy people's needs and budgets. Upon arrival, they make you file a "move in checklist" to make sure your apartment is in perfect condition and, if something is wrong, they will fix it in no-time. The maintenance staff is kind and efficient and, as it is true for the leasing staff, they are always down for a chat and a few laughs. I am glad I have the opportunity of living in such a welcoming community. As an international student it is particularly hard to find a place to live in the United States, at the Carlyle this reality is not true and you will feel welcomed no matter where you come from. I will never praise this enough. Moving to the building, my apartment has the cutest view ever, looking over some trees and a lovely wooden bridge. You also get access to many features like a pool table, a gym, many rooms to study, and, undoubtedly my favorite, a rooftop pool. I am looking forward to explore more of the Carlyle community, I am very glad of having a place to call home also in Baltimore.

The staff is lovely and willing to work with you. The maintenance team is nice and works very quickly. The only downside is that the building is old and when neighbors smoke in their apartment the smell of cigarettes goes into other apartments.

I've had a good experience with The Carlyle at the beginning when I first moved in, until the past year. Too many accidents happening and non compliant residents. Emails that keep getting sent out about trash, which residents are constantly ignoring and unknown fires in the building.

When a pipe burst in one of the apartments on my line, we realized the lack of empathy the management has towards the residents. They did not even communicate to the other residents of the building about this major event which affected more than 10 apartments, making some of them unliveable. The most affected residents, some of whom were in knee deep water on the day of the pipe burst, were not given a temporary place to stay in.

Our place is pretty nice, although we hoped for a refurbished unit. There were minor problems when we first moved into the apartment. Our biggest issue is smoking, which we already complained about to management numerous times. Discovered a leak coming from under the sink. Raising the rent means we will be finding a new place to live.

Great location with bad amenities. The elevator is always broken. I enjoy the big space in the apartment but the building is too old without proper fixing.

Great experience at the Carlyle

I especially recommend this community, because of the great people who work at the leasing office and go above and beyond to make us feel home and give the community a beautiful spirit, organizing regular events and getting to know the residents. Tedsa was fabulous and eased all the moving process with her kindness and professionalism, she is always available for any concern and always has a kind attention for everyone, thank her so much. It really ads up greatly to the safe environment, particularly for female residents, and the community is also very family friendly ! Living at the Carlyle is a great experience !

A good place to be. Very clean, nice amenities, and the apartments are spacious and well looked-after with a great location and plenty of natural light. My experience with repair/maintenance calls has been that they are answered swiftly and well. My only criticism would be how often the elevators break down or are out of order, which can be a very real annoyance, but my time here has generally been very positive otherwise.

I have lived here for 3 years, the nearby environment is relatively safe, the management is average, house maintenance service is quite prompt, but the rent is a bit high and the elevator often breaks down. I hope the apartment can properly address these issues.
