Apartment Reviews at Juneau Village Towers
Amazing Location and Amazing Views
I love living at JVT! My unit is beautiful. I have the most amazing view of the lake. My unit has this great washer/dryer combo called a Euro. The living room is bright and spacious. My kitchen has this huge breakfast bar. The office and maintenance staff are really great; they just hired a completely new staff. Things are taking a turn for the BETTER! I have NOT had any of the problems anyone is stating. I cant believe they are talking about my favorite apartment complex. You cant beat the location and the pool is absolutely amazing! Huge pool with awesome unique grill areas.
Do not believe the obviously planted 5-star reviews. It's like management seems to have contempt for their tenants. They can not be bothered to keep up with even basic building maintenance. Most doors are broken or unlocked, windows leak, showers barely have enough pressure to take a shower. (that is, if the water isn't shut off) The buildings and rooms get unbearably hot. Elevators are beyond their life and should be replaced. Rent was raised several times and is overpriced compared to the condition of the building. Katz was also audited recently and we had to report any cash payments given to them. As far as amenities go, JVT has a pool, laundry room, gym, and parking. But again, each of these are so poorly maintained by Katz that they're barely worth it. The pool was broken for part of the summer, the washer/dryers barely wash/dry, the gym is small and inadequate, and the parking lot leaks. Your experience with noise may vary. Though there are a considerable about of families with small children, and I often hear babies crying in the hallway or next room over. If you *only* care about location and view, consider this place. If you care about anything else, read the real reviews on the web and decide for yourself. JVT has seemed to price itself out of its actual value.
Not so great
For what you pay in rent, this apartment complex is not worth it. The office staff is ungodly rude. The fitness room is disgusting. Do not wash your clothes in the laundry room. AND there are bed bugs. STAY AWAY!!!
Bed Bugs-Don't live here!!!!!
My roommate and I just moved to Milwaukee 2 months ago and we have already gotten bed bugs from this building. There are multiple cases open at the apartment complex, but the management refuses to take the proper action to resolve the issue. We called and left messages multiple times trying to get in contact with them and they never returned our messages. In addition to that, they broke their lease agreement by entering our apartment without giving us any advance notice. Management knew about the issue and failed to communicate it to us for days. To make matters worse, they claimed that we signed in our lease that we are responsible for all costs. However, when we forced them to show us our lease, we hadn't signed that page. (That part of the lease was not scanned to us when we signed our lease via e-mail.) This has been a nightmare and no one should have go through what Juneau Village Towers has put us through. DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!
So many things to complain about with this apartment..if you don't feel like reading them all, just take away from this review that moving in to not only JVT, but ANY KATZ PROPERTY is the worst decision you could make. Here's why: I was showed this apt. last summer, and at first glance, it was awesome. We were offered $500 off first months rent. Our lease for our previous apartment was up in July, but we signed a June lease ONE WEEK after viewing the apt at JVT to take advantage of the $500 off (you had to sign the lease w/in two weeks of being showed the apt., which was not even communicated to us) This gave us a month to slowly move our stuff in; however, we DID NOT RECEIVE THE $500 OFF BECAUSE WE DID NOT MOVE OUR BELONGINGS IN WITHIN TWO WEEKS. Why this makes sense is beyond me. Katz was getting their security deposit/rent for June. Miscommunications happen&it usually takes a to bother me. When we moved in, the carpet was incredibly stained and we noticed that some of the trim was not finished; still, no biggie we went out rented a shampooer for the carpet. The absolute worst thing about this awful company is heat. Winters in Wisconsin are brutal, luckily heat is included in rent, right? Not. I would be warmer living in a cardboard box than in these apartments. You can literally see the blinds blowing from the draft coming through the windows. It is 56 degrees in my apt right now. Every single resident I have spoken with have called and complained to the front office (as have we) and they have been hung up on/ mistreated by the HORRIBLE staff of JVT. They gave out a few space heaters for those that complained first, which is BS because then you end up paying for heat! A few weeks after living here, we noticed that the plumbing sucked. The shower, garbage disposal, and sinks wouldn't drain. We called maintenance not one or two, but FIVE TIMES. Mind you we snaked each drain before calling. Each time they left a muddy trail all over our newly shampooed carpet, clearly did not take their shoes off or have any kind of respect for our stuff, but they didn't even fix the problem! One guy suggested we poured some Draino down! Finally someone fixed the plumbing (only to have it begin to clog a month later again.) Katz Properties is the most misleading, cheapest, greediest company I have ever encountered and if I can even prevent a couple of people from renting from any of their locations, that would be great.
Worst Value. Do not rent here.
Everything is dirty. Everything. I was without an air conditioner for three months. Don't expect to get much (if any) of your security deposit back. Leasing office is very unorganized and does not keep track of your paperwork. They are constantly hiring new employees. What does that say about the management? Things are always broken. The change machines in the laundry rooms are always empty. If you are a MSOE student looking to get a place, please take my advice and look elsewhere. It is not worth the money. Trust me. Overall, just an uncomfortable environment. It was completely my fault for my misery so don't make the same mistake!
Where do I begin?
Windows leak water, be ready for a flood. Windows whistle extremely loud when windy If you call about a complaint make sure you send an email to, that way it's documented. If you don't document it you will never see anything get done. They don't care about the residence, all of them are crabby and hate they have to be there. Look for another place, my warning to you.
They have bed bugs and management will do nothing to help! Don't rent here.
You pay the rent and you dont bother anyone is office you are fine but if you do the system breaks!
Past 2 years were very convenient, living in one of the very few places with balcony in downtown milwaukee. But the moment I decided to move out the whole system broke. They have this blackout period where no one can move out from till feb and if you do you have to pay the rent. Got a new job at a different city and now being unable to move. Watch out
Turn and Run
One of the most disappointing and aggravating living experiences I have ever had. Like mentioned in other reviews, though they have attempted to make cosmetic changes on their property this does nothing but mask the real issue this establishment has as a whole. Even in a 1 bedroom you can expect to have roommates promptly after moving in, and by roommates I mean bed bugs. When you call the management office to resolve this issue they will assist you setting up an exterminator, HOWEVER, they will charge you for this service which they will not state, and which is also not stated anywhere in the lease; can you say illegal? Also on several occasions they will enter and access your apartment without your permission prior to doing so or notifying you about doing so afterwards, all at ungodly hours of the morning, banging on your door from anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour; this is also illegal. Not to mention that once they do enter to do whatever it is they claim to need to do they will leave the area a complete mess every time or you spend weeks listening to construction happening in the units around you. Another regular occurrence is having the water shut off in the entire building for usually two days out of the week usually at least once a month, and I've also had a few occasions where NONE of the elevators in our building were in service for almost full days at a time leaving some people either stranded inside or outside of the building unless you decide to try your luck climbing to one of the 25 floors in some cases. Overall I would never recommend living here and am thoroughly disgusted with my experience.
DO NOT LISTEN TO 5-STAR REVIEWS!!!
Where do I start? First, COCKROACHES!!! COCKROACHES EVERYWHERE!!! I've had my apartment sprayed once already (management blamed it on the arena construction happening 1 mile away) yet they keep coming back. Literally running across my floor. There are other little bugs/insects crawling everywhere also so consider yourself warned. Also, don't expect to sleep. Between the jackhammer going in the basement to them "renovating" the apartments above and below me, I have to leave my apartment during the day and go to my parents house because the noise is unbearable. I can't even stay in my own apartment that I pay a lot of money for!! The renovations are cheap at best anyways. The heat sucks, so does the A/C and the dishwasher. The shower has 2 settings, burning hot or ice cold. Management has said someone came in to "fix" it but like everything else in my apartment, when it gets "fixed", it doesn't really so I just limit myself to 30-second showers (or shower at my parents house when I'm hiding out there). They came to put a new screen on my window and literally just hung it on so when I opened my window, the screen fell 5 stories and 6 months later, nobody has come to put it back on despite several requests. Seriously, I could keep going, but I don't feel like writing a book. Beware!! I'll leave with a positive note, the location is great, management acts like they care (but they don't), and the rooftop views are amazing (but not the rooftop "gym"). Please disregard any response from Katz on here, they really don't care at all which is why the building is half empty.
Don't Rent Here!
The shower has 2 settings; ice cold or scolding hot. Don't expect to sleep with all the noise. They literally have a jackhammer that shakes the whole apartment building going from 7am-3pm. Windows are broken and staff won't fix them. Heat doesn't work and neither does the A/C. Great location, awful apartment complex.
WARNING DO NOT RENT AT THIS APARTMENT!
Juneau Village Towers is a very old building, they are attempting to do cheap fix up, but the building needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. The building has a problem with on-going large cockroaches. I walked into my bathroom and found large cockroach dead in my tub, one morining I got up for work and one went across my living room floor, this one was alive. I found large cockraches in the hallway dead that were left there for a week. I was invaded by small white ants in my kithen area, I could no leave anything out or else the ants would be inside of my items. When I did not have anything out, they still crawled from the top of the ceiling, I am sure behind the walls there are a nets full of all kind of bugs! The staff will do all they can to keep your securuity deposit, they charged me extra for water-a total of $150 dollars for a 6 month stay. After I cleaned the apartment, they charged me $250.00 dollars for bed bugs, they stated they were on the base of the wall they found when they checked the apartment, I never complained of bed bugs, and they sent me a copy of the bill with no price located on it. I strongly recommend you do not stay at this apartment and tell your friends not to stay here. It's a very very bad group of staff and environment. It is also extremently over priced.
The place has an infestation of bed bugs that will not go away. Do not rent here
Living here is possible, but begrudgingly
The Good: • The view is nice and it is in the center of downtown and by the lake. • It's close to the grocery store. • There is a pool in the summer. The Bad: • There will be bugs...too many ants to count and I have seen three cockroaches in the laundry room. • Once a month you can expect to wake up or come home to there being no water on in the building, and no help to be found when calling about it. • The shower drains are bad as well, granted my girlfriend sheds hair a lot, but it usually requires a de-clogging agent once every month or so. • When using the coin operated washer and dryer machines it will be like a roulette game of seeing if they work, and then if they do whether they will clean/dry your clothes. • You will be able to hear your neighbors, the construction going on in other units/on the streets, and your apartment will smell like whatever your neighbor is cooking or smoking. • The windows whistle when it's windy and because you can't control your own heat you will be sweating in the winter. • There is always maintenance on something, the parking garage isn't fully operational, leaky ceilings in the lobby, and a few elevators not working every now and then.
Management Missed Apartment Showing Appointment
I'm moving to the area from out of state, so we set up an appointment in the morning on a Saturday to tour this facility, and no one was even in the office at 10 am. We sat around for 15 minutes waiting for someone to show up before leaving. We left a message offering to stop by later that day, but didn't even get a call back. Truly embarrassing, and I'm thankful they didn't show up, because I can't be confident that the service as a tenant would be much better.
Not bad for the price and location.
Overall for a College student like myself, it's pretty good. The price is fair for the location (others around here are as much as $3000+), but it is going up after each lease. It's right next to my school and anything is better than College housing, i.e. much cheaper and you can get your own food. As someone noted before, office staff here seem pretty ornery and generally sound like they don't like you or their job. But, maintenance is pretty on top of things so far. I reported a broken door and light fixture and it was fixed the very same day. There are few maintenance people that don't seem to know what they're doing, but the other half are very helpful and polite about fixing stuff. Haven't had a chance to use the pool, so I can't comment on that yet. Appliances and such in the apartments themselves are dated and my apartment had water damage in the cabinets before I moved in. Pressure in the shower is definitely subpar, but I can still take a shower daily without problems. Winter was pretty brutal this year and the windows leaked like a sieve. At one point, I had a quarter inch thick sheet of ice covering every one of my windows, and when I asked about heating my apartment, the office staff responded that they are only legally bound to heat the apartments to 68 degrees and no more. Overall, I'd say it's not bad for the price and location, but don't expect a Hilton here. Also note, there are 3 buildings (A, B, and C) and C building just had it's elevators completely replaced. For not having to pay for heat and only pay water once per quarter ($60-$120 depending on unit) and only needing to pay for electricity, it's pretty good.
Bait and Switch
After much careful consideration and excitement to move to Milwaukee from out of state, I finally signed a lease for an apartment that seemed great. 10 days later and less than 24 hours before I was set to move in (internet, electricity, movers already lined up) I received a phone call from Juneau Village Towers telling me there had been a "big mistake" and my rent would actually be $100 more a month. They informed me I had two options, to 1. move in at the new rate or 2. "get out of" my lease (even though they were actually the ones breaking it). Save yourself the headache and do not even look at these apartments, or any apartments managed through Katz Properties. What kind of company would rather have this type of publicity than just bite the bullet and honor the original rental agreement?
Juneau Village Towers
I can't say enough good things about JVT. Location is great and the views from the units are awesome! Office staff, especially Lisa, are helpful and pleasant. I am in the C Building and never have had a noise issue. You won't go wrong living here!
Don't rent here
The staff are very rude. The building had on-going bed bugs and large cockroaches and they will take your money. This rent is too high for the dump you get. I was unable to leave food out there were strange white ants every where getting into my food after I put up my food the clear ants would still come out of the walls. Do not rent here very bad!
Great location and price, mediocre apartments
Pros: -- Location. Walking distance to downtown, Brady Street, Third Ward. Biking distance to Riverwest and Upper East Side. Easy access to the highway. Metro Market right across the street. -- Price. Relatively cheap relative to the location and access to underground parking. -- Views. I have an upper-floor apartment facing the lake. Great view for the price. -- Amenities. Access to a decent enough pool and a decent enough top-floor fitness center that faces the lake. Cons: -- Apartments. The towers were built in the 1960s, and not much feels like it's been done to the rooms. My closets didn't fully close, my refrigerator motor made loud noises, the cabinets and appliances were outdated. The piping is also bad, causing the shower drain to clog whenever it's cold. -- Ventilation. When the weather gets above the 50s, the apartments get hot and stuffy because there's no central air or ventilation. As a result, you smell everybody's food (especially curry). It also causes electric bills to spike ($100-125) during the summer because you have to run the A/C a lot. -- Lighting. The apartments facing the lake also face the sun in the morning, which makes it incredibly bright very early. -- Ants. I had ants the entire time. Nothing a little Raid couldn't handle, but annoying.
nice view on the high floors and fast maintenance.
an awesome place to live
I came from another country, and just when i moved to this place (my first apartment in United states) i started to feel at home. I love the mix of culture, the building and the view of the apartments. Finally i just feel like i found my home far away from family.
This is the best view of the city and lake I've ever had! The pool and gym are always clean and shopping at Metro Market across the street is a dream. I visit Cathedral Square regularly and love how close I am to Jazz in the park. The staff has always been helpful and I feel at home here which is a far cry from apartments I've lived in that claim to be luxury.
This is one of the buildings in downtown which offers decent size apartments. You can walk around the room even after you have put a bed :). The rent is a little lesser than the more high end apartments in the area. The gym is decent, and there is a swimming pool(operates in summer season) as well.Metro market is just opposite the building which makes grocery shopping fairly easy. Pick 'n' Save is nearby too. There are a variety of restaurants and pubs at a walk-able distance as well. The building is a bit old though and have heard stories of bedbugs from people staying in some apartments. The property managers could treat the tenants a bit better! Overall a nice place to stay if you are looking for a place in downtown.
Juneau Village Towers
I have lived here for 11 years in three different apartments. The office staff has always been friendly and any maintenance issues have been handled quickly. I now live in the tall tower building with a beautiful view of Lake Michigan.
Love JVT and KatzProp!!
The best landlord in all of Milwaukee and beyond!! Ive lived in several of his properties and they have all been wonderful experiences, JVT being my favorite!! Buildings are well maintained as are the apartments!! If you have any problems maintenance comes out the next day. I have lived all over the world but part of the reason I stay in Milwaukee is because it is such a joy and ease to live in a Katz Property apartment!
JVT is a great place to live
I have lived at JVT for a year now and love it here. You can't beat the location and the staff is very friendly. I have seen some major improvements and highly recommend checking out these apartments.
What a place!
Juneau Village has been a great place to live! As a long term tenant of JVT I have grown fond of the heated pools in summer and the beautiful grounds in winter, as well as the gym and club room! I have lived in studios, 1 bedrooms, and 2 bedrooms over the years. Managment has most recently also undergone renovation of a lot of the facilities, lobbies, laundry, and apartments! We also just got a new onsite management team and maintenance crew. All in all JVT is a great place to live. It has all of the old world charm but feels fresh and new thanks to all the updates. No better place to live in down town Milwaukee!
A Great Place to Live!
I have been living in a studio at JVT for 13 months now. While the building is a little older than some of the surrounding high-rises, the price and atmosphere can't be beat! Great views, helpful staff, and an amazing neighborhood!
Its great here
I am really enjoying the updated lobby area and the updated units. I also enjoy the outdoor pool very much. I especially like how Juneau Village is close to everything, lots of stores and especially the bus. Its also close to all the activities, including Summerfest and all the festivals. They are also very responsive whenever I need anything. I am very happy here.
Best ever apartment move in so far
Thank you for hassle free move in process. Would recommend everyone to move in.
