The college town of Aiken is located in southeastern South Carolina near the Georgia border. It is home to the University of South Carolina Aiken and to Aiken Technical College. The city is roughly 18 miles northeast of Augusta, but unlike its neighbor, golf doesn't reign supreme here -- polo does. The heart of the city is its downtown area, a vibrant shopping and dining destination. Designed around cobblestone courtyards with fountains and benches, Downtown Aiken is an inviting place to live. It is home to a variety of art galleries, antique stores, the AECOM Center for the Performing Arts, and top-rated restaurants.
Aiken began as a railroad town in 1835, and Downtown Aiken is home to many historic locations. The Aiken Tennis Club dates back to 1898 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visit the Aiken County Historical Museum to learn more about the city's history.

Property Ratings at Gatewood
Living here is so quiet and peaceful. If I have a maintenance request it gets answered timely. Our complex was effected by Helene and the property is still recovering but the office staff has been more than helpful.
Don’t waste your time. You’ll have pipes bust and will be responsible for outrageous water bill. Leasing agents refuse to do anything other than evict people and sign leases. Forced to pay vallet trash which has been the biggest waste of time.
I have been here since before the renovations and Mollie is the sweetest property manager. All of the work orders that I put in are completed in a timely fashion and all the staff have exhibited nothing but patience with me. I am so happy to call this place my home.
If I could write a book I would! Leasing staff are never in the office and they don’t answer your phone calls. Be aware of PEST! Lizards, snakes, and rodents! TAKE HEED TO THIS PLACE!!
Be careful of living here if you open a pet. They will enter the apartment with just a days notice even if you have a note on the door saying you have pets. They just replaced my patio door as part of a renovation and my cat could have escaped when the work was being done. They called and told me there was an issue with getting my door open. I wrote back immediately saying not to enter until I got home in an hour and a half. They said they would wait. But then they had replaced the door before I got back. Thank God my cat was upstairs. Can't imagine the worst! "Stressed out"
This place has it all! Except for you of course. Then it will really have it all. The floor plan is well thought out. The kitchen, dining area, and living room is a gracious large open space opening out onto the largest patio I found in Aiken. Walk down the hall to the bedroom suite and find your private seclusion. Each room has a ceiling fan! No other apartment community I looked at can match that. What's more, unlike other apartment communities, the swimming pool stays open all year round! That comes in right handy for those surprise 80 degree days in March and October. Finally, the Gatewood Apartment Community is charming, shaded by numerous trees, and staffed by friendly, cooperative, folks who will welcome you with gracious Southern Hospitality.
