Holt is a mid-size suburban community bordering the south end of Lansing, the state’s capital city. Apart from a low-key commercial district along Cedar Street, the area is primarily filled with residential neighborhoods. A mix of apartments, condos, and houses in a wide range of styles and prices make up the rental market.
The proximity to Lansing makes Holt a great option for commuters. Locals have direct access to a wealth of shopping and dining options on the south side of the capital city. Michigan State University is also just a few minutes north, transforming Holt into a convenient choice for students, faculty, and staff members.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Esker Square
I lived here from 2023 to 2025, and honestly, it was a constant headache. You will lose power all the time—not just during storms, but from a little wind, light rain, or for absolutely no reason at all. That’s how poorly this place was built, and clearly, they never bothered to run power lines underground like a modern property should. Management changes every few months, so good luck getting consistent help or answers. There are zero amenities—no gym, no carports, no leasing office—and yet they still try to raise the rent like it’s some luxury complex. To top it off, you’re stuck paying unavoidable fees for trash, pest control, and admin costs, even if the service is nonexistent. The intercom was completely down for two months during the holidays, making deliveries and guest access a nightmare, and when I asked to use the sister property’s gym and pool, the staff acted like I was asking for something outrageous. This place is poorly managed, cheaply built, and absolutely not worth the price. Avoid it if you can.
The Cedar Street traffic is loud, day and night and overnight. Even if you sleep with white noise. If you enjoy opening your windows or sitting on your patio or balcony, I would not recommend this place. It's like living next to a highway. It does have pretty countertops. There's a large living room but small bedroom. Large bathroom but no heat/air vent, no bathtub, no linen closet. There's no carpet pad underneath the scratchy carpet. There's no kitchen island. There's no promised fenced dog area and no room for it.
