South Shore once was a retreat for Chicago's society set -- and today the beautiful beaches, plentiful green space, lovely homes and easy access to downtown bring renewed interest to former First Lady Michelle Obama's previous neighborhood! ATTRACTIONS: The heart of South Shore is the South Shore Cultural Center, just 3 blocks away. It includes a theater, cultural arts programs, nature center, tennis and 9-hole golf course. Once an exclusive country club, this lakefront gem now is open to the public -- Sunday jazz brunch is a must! Within 2 to 4 blocks are restaurants, cafes, bakeries, an ice cream shop, dry cleaners, another weekend jazz club, beautiful public library. And it's a short drive to bustling Hyde Park with its abundance of shops, eateries, entertainment and more. TRANSPORTATION: To reach most city attractions, there are several buses and the Metra within a few blocks. By vehicle, Lakeshore Drive is 3 blocks. THE HOUSE: There are 2 apartments in this spacious brick building; your hosts live in the other. There are fenced-in back and side yards, and that long driveway for off-street parking.
