Property Ratings at Desert Star
I would not recommend Desert Star Apartments to a cockroach, however they seem to love it here anyways. Management is shady in every sense of the world. Maintenance is slow, Pools are always broken. There is no usable gym as advertised. Drug use runs rampant and unchecked through the community, multiple drug dealers live within the community. If you DO or PLAN on living here, when you inevitably hand in your 30 day notice, have them SIGN it, make a copy and return it to you. Do yourself a favor, contact the Phoenix Police department and request a report of all criminal activity at this place, I would tell you that it shocked me, but after what i've been through with this complex, nothing surprises me.
Times are tough and this place is easy to get into and on the cheaper side. BUT there is other places to go trust me every building is infested with bed bugs and roaches. Ask anyone who lives there you will end up with bed bugs. Management claims that they they treat every apartment before move in this is false. Since every building is infested it wouldn’t matter anyway since they eventually make their way through walls and outlets. Your electrical bill will be through the roof and APS not management will do anything about it. Mine was over $300 one month for a 524 sq for apt. Management claims they clean every apartment this is is false. My apartment was disgusting when I moved so I cleaned myself. Management is awful and will try to bully you and act like they have a law team. You must stand your ground and no your rights and the laws. If you have an issue forget about maintenance my shower handle broke off hot water ran for 36 hours full blast before anyone came to fix it . The only reason they finally fixed it I wrote scathing review on google. Trust me it will cost you so much money in long run do not rent here this place should be condemned.
I moved here sight unseen from another state based on all the beautiful pictures and amenity package. First off, the "clubhouse" is a maintenance supply building, there is no fitness center, no volleyball net or sand, no tennis court net, the fence is falling in, neither spa has produced hot water in the 4 months I've been here (residence have told me it's been over 2 years) and the pool has only been open 2 of the 4 months I've been here, and when it is open it is not kept clean, there's a film on top. The grounds are littered with trash, the neighbors won't think twice to steal from you if your back is turned, and the actual apartments are unclean and roach infested. Hands down worst property I have ever had to live in. CANNOT wait for my lease to be over.
Roaches maintenance slow and they try and trap you in lease and not return deposits
Well it appears that maintenance is slow coming in repairs. The mailbox here is not to be trusted, I have a missing package that was delivered here and it has not been found as of a month ago early August 2015. The very old complex has archived window a/c, not central heating and cooling. It looks like they are attempting to clean up the place to some degree. A lot of dog feces all around, too. And a lot of money for such a small living space.
Sun shines vigorously through window because the apartment lays on the East. Cock roaches, insects run around at night time. Swimming pool keeps closing every three days to clean up due to laying under the trees so leaves keep dropping down. The laundry room is too hot and they didn't open windows so fresh air can cool off the laundry room. The one-room apartment is too small and no private balcony. Sometimes people throw their trash like bottles, glass containers, paper glass, straws in front of my doors.
