Restaurants

Fitting in with the fresh malls and businesses in the retail area, Delta Township's dining scene possesses a distinctly modern flair. Explore a multicultural dining experience with Japanese, Mexican, Italian and Burmese cuisine, or enjoy some Midwestern favorites in the home-town grills and steakhouses.

Head to Ukai Hibachi Grill and Sushi Bar to watch a talented chef prepare your meal right in front of you. If you're new to the entertaining hibachi cooking style, order the Tokyo special for a savory blend of noodles, meat and veggies in a specialty sauce. You can also sit up at the sushi bar to try the spicy crab roll, a California-inspired sushi favorite. Don't forget to stop by during happy hour for prices slashed on drinks, appetizers and sushi.

Authentic Mexican cuisine and energetic vibes keep locals coming back to Cancun Mexican Grill week after week. Try the pollo loco dish complete with refried beans and rice, or savor the steaming enchiladas. Don't forget to try the sopapilla piled high with ice cream and syrups for a sweet treat, and be sure to sample one of the strongest margaritas in town.

Stop into Finley's American Grill to fill up on comfort foods like ribs and the Kansas City sirloin alongside some portobello mac 'n cheese. The rustic decor and intimate atmosphere create a backyard BBQ feel, and the loaves of free bread with butter make diners feel at home. For a lighter meal, be sure to try the Michigan cherry salad.

Delta Township's family-friendly environment means that most businesses shut their doors before bedtime. Most residents head into downtown Lansing for energetic clubs, lounges and live music, but you still find a few dive bars and grills for some local nightlife. The after-work crowd hits up Oade's Bar and Grill to shoot some pool and play darts in a friendly atmosphere. On busy nights, be sure to sit on the rail for the quickest service.

History

Although the area now known as Delta Township was platted in 1827, the first settlers did not arrive until 1835. Farms and saw mills soon began popping up all over the community, and the area remained primarily agricultural until the housing boom from the 1960s to 1980s. The community was incorporated as a charter township in 1962.

Take a short drive to discover nearby cultural attractions like the Michigan Historical Museum and Michigan Women's Hall of Fame in Lansing. Delta Township also hosts more than a dozen family-friendly events held throughout the year like the Delta Rocks Family Festival with games, blow-up activities, clowns and a live DJ. Be sure to enroll your children in the Kid's Mud Run, one of the most highly anticipated events of the year.

Transportation

Delta Township remains well-connected to the capital city of Lansing and other neighboring cities with easy access to Interstates 96, 69 and 496 from the township center. The vast majority of residents navigate the area by car, enjoying plenty of free parking even in the mall area. If you need a ride to the airport, feel free to call a rideshare service like Uber or a local taxi service.

Both Eaton County and Lansing provide bus service to Delta Township, but you only find bus stops on the eastern end of the township with most dotting Saginaw Highway. The area's scattered layout makes it difficult to bike or walk to the local grocery stores, but the Delta Township Sidewalk Plan keeps walking paths safe and neat. If you do choose to navigate the area on two wheels, feel free to cruise down the bike lane on Willow Highway.

Cost

Residents enjoy a cost of living that falls slightly below average for the city of Lansing. If you choose to rent, expect to pay around $645 for a standard one-bedroom apartment. A one-way bus trip into central Lansing costs around $1.25, and gas prices generally hover 12 percent below the national average. When you go out for a drink at a local bar like Oade's, expect to pay $3 to $4 for your favorite draft.

Shopping

Living in Delta Township places you at the doorstep of some of the best gift shops, high-end fashion boutiques and local hobby shops in downtown Lansing. However, one drive down along Saginaw Highway reveals a treasure trove of amenities, national fashion retailers and sports stores right here in the township. Locals head to Lansing Mall to find restaurants, fashion mainstays, jewelry stores and electronics stores while enjoying free Wi-Fi. A little ways west, The Marketplace at Delta Township provides a more casual shopping experience with home improvement stores, a pet shop and other amenities in an outdoor plaza.

If you're looking for a prom dress, wedding dress or floral arrangements for a big anniversary bash, stop by Pierre's Bridal & Floral. Browse a wide selection of romantic gowns and handsome tuxedos, and let the friendly staff help you find the perfect accessories to complement your outfit. Don't forget to check out the clearance rack for discount wedding gowns.

Looking for a new piano to decorate your new home? Head to Reeder Piano Inc to explore a selection of high-quality new and restored pianos. Choose from lovingly refurbished Steinway, Mason & Hamlin, Baldwin and other vintage pianos. Also browse hard-to-find accessories, or bring your own antique piano in for restoration.

Pick up all your grocery staples at Krogers, or stop by ALDI for discounted food items. For fresh produce, be sure to stop by Horrocks Farm Market. Buy deli items, wine, fresh flowers and more from a family-owned business that has been serving the community since the 1950s.

Parks

For a relaxing getaway on your day off, explore Delta Township's collection of public parks and nature areas, most dotting the northern region along the Grand River. Head to Hunters Orchard Park to hike through more than 40 acres of untouched wilderness with woodland trails, or check out the picnic and fishing areas. Locals often come here to take their canine companions on a peaceful walk. Another local favorite is Grand Woods Park with its disc golf course and radio-controlled race car track

Stop by Sharp Park near the mall to play a game of basketball, softball or volleyball. Take your kids to climb on the playground, or let them try their luck in the fishing pond. Don't miss the summer concerts and family-oriented shows at the park's amphitheatre.
