Niantic is a small coastal community just minutes west of New London and directly across Long Island Sound from Montauk. It is very much a classic beach town—Main Street runs roughly parallel to the shore and often within sight of Niantic Bay. The area surrounding Main is a quaint mix of attractive houses, specialty shops, and restaurants in a walkable environment.
In addition to its picturesque atmosphere, the local schools earn top marks, making it a very appealing location for families. There is a significant military presence in Niantic, with Camp Rowland and Camp Niantic on the northeast corner of town and Naval Submarine Base New London just a short drive away.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Deerfield Village
I lived here for a year back in 2010 and absolutely loved everything about it: the office staff, the maintenance team, the unit and its up-to-date features, and the safe quiet neighborhood on top of a hill. Living in Deerfield Village doesn't feel like your typical apartment experience; it feels like owning your own condo-townhome minus the homeowner's expenses. The community takes pride unlike most apartment complexes in actually painting the unit walls with a nice color paint and not just globbing over the previous tenant's paint prior to you moving in. The kitchen is up-to-date with nice appliances and cabinets and the bathrooms are clean with no cracked tubs or floor tiles. You will either get a full basement or attic with washer/dryer hookups, and the garage and driveway is a must have. Income restrictions do apply and are used to determine how much your monthly rent payment will be. When I lived here, if you made more than 40k per year your rent would be $1090 per month. These terms are no longer valid with today's market. But it was certainly worth it compared to what else is available in the nearby market. The waitlist for an available unit is extensive last I checked and it's no wonder why, so be sure to put your name on there quickly. Take my word for it, when you see it you will fall in love!
