Property Ratings at Craven Apartments
Paper thin walls (so thin you’re able to hear the other tenants do almost anything), mold in the bathroom, very antiquated amenities. It is also very dirty. And old… not in a good way. Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else!
-black mold on the side of building that ate into a tenant's closet -a hoarder's basement (where you do laundry) full of lice and fleas; barely any space left -hallway carpet NEVER cleaned. garbage juice still there from a year ago -most horrible experience with a landlord; late to respond (if he does at all) and does not fix broken amenities i.e. oven for 12 months, 1+ year for refrigerator for an elderly tenant (had to walk to nearest Ralphs for groceries every day), 9 months for microwave oven, 2+ years for rotten floor, etc. -you have to ask him in WRITING (keep a paper trail) to get a deposit back by what date and the amount
I have had problems with this building/landlord for the entire year that I lived there First, the apartment was promised to be cleaned and the broken window screens from the previous tenant were promised to be replaced. Next, after about 2 months we had noticed the oven and garbage disposal did not work. The oven seemed to be from the 19th century - it took almost 45 minutes to preheat. Even after preheating, our food would still take forever to cook. Also, the stovetop needed to be ignited with a barbecue lighter. We reached out for help to fix the garbage disposal and stovetop and after being “fixed” we immediately had a leak under our sink. We had bees swarming outside and coming through our apartment and we had to fix it with duck tape. Once again he had promised to fix it but never did. Moving on, My fiancé had to experience the on site manager exposing himself with no clothes on while he was opening his door. When weather began to get colder, we noticed extreme black mold growth growing on the ceilings due to having no vent in the bathroom. The maintenance man told us that he prompted the owner to install vents in the bathroom but the idea was declined because it was “too expensive”. We eventually received some of our deposit but we had to consistently message him every day. Even then, he was charging us for unnecessary things and coming up with lies to do so. We were made aware there would be a $150 cleaning fee which was raised due to “cat hair”… mind you this building is full of stray cats that walk around the building. He told us upon our descent to leave all of the keys in the drawer next to the refrigerator and the door unlocked and that’s exactly what we did. 21 days later after moving out and being told we’d receive the deposit, we then received a string of texts including blatant lies according to what our deductions would be. The landlord said that we would need to pay for the window screens “our cats destroyed”. The ones that were ruined from the previous tenants and never fixed in the first place. Also, he told us there would be a deduction for “losing the mail keys”. They were never lost and put in the same place as he had directed us to put them. Just keep this in mind while searching for an apartment. He is a deceitful landlord with and you most likely will not receive any of your deposit unless you take him to small claims court.
This old building lacks any soundproofing, allowing the constant thuds from the upstairs neighbors to disturb every moment. Despite clearly requesting repairs, the indifferent landlord has taken no action. The worn-out and dirty screens haven't been replaced with blinds, yet the landlord audaciously charged us for cleaning. The sewers consistently clog, and the outdated windows continuously release dust and insect eggs, creating an extremely unpleasant environment. Cleaning the house daily proves futile. Furthermore, the landlord demonstrates complete indifference. The perpetually leaking sink floods the floor, yet the owner shows no willingness to resolve the issue. Additionally, the carpets in the basement and hallway are unequivocally filthy and grimy. While still residing within these miserable walls, the landlord brazenly entered without notice to paint the premises for the new tenant. Such behavior is not only deserving of criticism but also a testament to the current dismal state of this place. If you consider renting this house, be prepared to forfeit the entire security deposit. The landlord will not return it, resorting to every possible lie. Moreover, it is crucial to meticulously document every detail of the contract, including the smallest provisions, with explicit consent from the landlord. Otherwise, they will change their attitude and make fools out of all of you.
The landlord will not fix anything. Will not clean the apartment or paint in between tenants and will try to keep your security deposit. Half the lights burned out in the hallways at any given time. Weeds growing around the property. Very rarely are the hallways vacuumed.
Dirty and smelly. Very old building. Sign says there is parking and has been renovated. No parking and maybe renovated 15 years ago
