At 7,000 feet elevation in the world's largest ponderosa pine forest, Flagstaff combines mountain town living with a rich cultural scene. This high-altitude city, home to Northern Arizona University, features a downtown area where historic Route 66 architecture meets local shops and restaurants. The rental market shows average rents at $1,741, with a slight decrease of about 1% year-over-year. One-bedroom apartments average $1,663, while two-bedroom units typically rent for $2,079.
As the world's first International Dark Sky City, Flagstaff offers exceptional stargazing at the historic Lowell Observatory. The city sits just 80 miles from the Grand Canyon, while the San Francisco Peaks provide opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and skiing at Arizona Snowbowl. Notable areas include the historic downtown district with its preserved architecture, the walkable Southside neighborhood near the university, and the tree-lined streets of east Flagstaff's Continental Country Club area.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Average Nothing over the top. Nice place to live but like a said just very average. Place is clean and maintenance workers are nice aside from the fact that there are only two for the entire complex so it takes a while for you work orders to be completed
TERRIBLE apartment complex with horrible management that treats their residents with no respect for their time, space, or money.
----------------------------------- We are extremely dissatisfied that the apt was not ready when we moved in from out of town in Phoenix. It was not cleaned at all and had a sloppy paint job done that caused paint to get on the floors and windows. The carpet smelled bad and was stained badly. The windows had no lock. The walls had holes in them from the previous tenant and the garbage disposal still had food in it. The grounds in front of the property contained cigarette butts on the ground and stuck in the railings as well as lots of trash. The dumpsters were overflowing during move in day and we were unable to dump any of our garbage in them. When we called to let them know they offered to bring a cleaning crew after the fact but my daughters furniture was already in and they had already started cleaning everything themselves. She is unable to move the furniture out herself and we were told the cleaning crew would not move anything. We live 2 hours away so that was not an option. Additionally we had asked to move in early and were charged a full month's rent for Aug even though the only move in date allowed was on the 20th. ------------------------------------------------------ The staff was pleasant before move in but has been unhelpful after the lease was signed and my daughter moved in. So far the only benefit to this property is its location to the NAU campus. If we had the opportunity to do it again for the price we would have chosen a different well maintained property ---------------------------------------------------------
I lived in The Commons for my first year at NAU. The staff is so friendly and quick to respond to any issues. As far as off campus student housing goes, The Commons is by far the best. It is in a perfect location to get to both North and South campus and is in a quiet location. I highly recommend checking this place out. The only reason I moved, was because it's a little expensive but cheaper and better than other off campus student apartments.
apartments are cheaply furnished with old appliances. you are charged a fee anytime something breaks- WHY RENT! Management does not care and will outright lie to you in various situations Rent is high, you are nickeled and dimed for everything. Run from the commons at sawmills
disgusting, unkept buildings, icy, unsalted stairs and parking lot, zero ammenities, incredibly loud and EARLY construction. the office staff will do all they can to bleed you dry, while simultaneously being the ditziest and most deceitful people on the planet. i had so many problems with neighbors, what did they do? told me to stop calling them. i cannot say it enough: LIVE LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE IN FLAGSTAFF.
I know there is a shortage of apartments in flagstaff . But the common staff is all rude there not helpful and they give short answers . They have no communication skills . The furniture for the apartments have not arrived yet and they have no encouragement and empathy sleeping on a blow up . 75.00 dollars off a month is right for all the stuff that is missing in the apartment . No one has honest answers about the furniture and the delay and sounds like they really don't care that we are upset about no furniture . You all need to work on your peoples skills and be much more pleasemt to your renters .
Starting with the good, the apartments themselves are pretty nice, especially for the price, and being close to campus is always a big draw. However, I have never lived in a noisier place, and I used to live between a fire station and ambulance dispatch. People scream as the go around at night, there's a massive loud tow truck every night, dogs barking, and none of it ever lets up. The management is also quite vindictive with fees. They will find a way to charge you for something, it will be silly, you kind of have to just factor it in. Maintenance takes about a week to respond to any requests, with repeated excuse that they're busy (then you're understaffed, lazy, or both). I've lived in 5 apartment complexes, this is easily the worst, but if you need something cheap near campus, there aren't too many options.
I've lived at the Commons since it was called Alpine Ridge - I've been here over 10 years and I don't plan on moving anywhere else while I live in Flagstaff. The Commons is in a perfect location: close to the University (there's barely a fence between the two places), close to Downtown (approximately a 10 minunte walk), and right on the Urban Trail system (entrance is literally at the back of the apartment complex). The apartment units are ideal. Each unit has a washer/dryer and dishwasher, and the open floor plan makes the apartment feel even bigger than it is. I live in a 2bedroom 2bathroom unit that's around 800 sqft and it has served me well from having multiple room mates to just me and my husband. I wish The Commons hadn't decided to allow dogs - now there's dog poo everywhere on the grounds and sometimes the thin nature of the walls makes it hard to block out the barking. The management has always been very nice to me. In fact, the maintenance crew is quite friendly and professional. I wish some of the aesthetic decisions that were made during renovations had been scrapped in order to keep rents down, but no matter the astronomical rise in rent over the last 3 years, I'll still pay this unfortunately high market value for the amenities and location. Refer a friend and get money knocked off your rent - true story, I've actually been able to take advantage of this offer. The Commons has a web portal where residents can request maintenance, write reviews, etc. My favorite feature is paying rent through the portal - I can use my credit card and receive miles/points for the transaction. I love having this option! Soon, paying rent will send me on a free vacation. Nice. Overall, I think this is the best apartment complex to live in while in Flagstaff.
I love living here! It is in walking distance from Northern Arizona University as well as Downtown Flagstaff (aka: the only thing to do in Flagstaff...) The office has successfully kept me from cheating on my no-diet diet, as every Friday they provide me with donuts at the leasing office (Thanks for that!). Literally the only thing that could make my living situation better is if Jeff Goldblum lived in my apartment....
