About Cobb House
Welcome to The Cobb House, a residence steeped in history and charm, nestled in the heart of Augusta. Originally built in 1916 as the Shirley Hotel, this iconic building was celebrated as “Augusta’s first modern apartment building” and quickly became a beacon of resilience and innovation after a devastating fire in the area. Designed by the acclaimed architect G. Lloyd Preacher, The Cobb House beautifully marries historic elegance with contemporary sophistication. After a thoughtful renovation in the 1980s, the building was renamed to honor its original principal investor, the legendary baseball player Ty Cobb, who made Augusta his home. Today, The Cobb House offers a range of beautifully renovated 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, each reflecting the building’s timeless charm. Located in a prime spot, you’ll have easy access to the vibrant attractions of downtown Augusta while enjoying the blend of historic character and modern comfort. Come discover your new home at The Cobb House—where every apartment is a slice of living history in a fantastic location. We’d love to welcome you!

In 1735, two years after James Oglethorpe founded Savannah, the first city in the new colony of Georgia, he sent a team led by Noble Jones to find a good location for the second colonial settlement. Jones and his team found a location along the Savannah River used by Native Americans to cross. Oglethorpe named the new city after Princess Augusta, the wife of Frederick, Prince of Wales. Today, Downtown Augusta is listed on the National Register of Historic Places at the Augusta Downtown Historic District. The neighborhood is also home to the Augusta Museum of History, which was founded in 1937 and features several permanent collections and exhibitions. Other notable museums include the Morris Museum of Art, which focuses on works by Southern artists.
If you choose to rent an apartment in Downtown Augusta, you'll enjoy spending time at the Augusta Riverwalk, a beautiful park featuring several gardens, an amphitheater, restaurants, and a playground.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
