Property Ratings at Chaparral Apartments
I've lived here for less than a year, and I've enjoyed living here, but there are some issues I would like to address so future tenants can be aware. The good: The apartments are in nice, affordable & in a great location. Parking spaces are provided for residents, with plenty of guest spaces available. It's a dog friendly building & I love the convenience of the property's dog run. It's also a very safe building with security cameras. The bad: I'm fairly certain the building is made out of balsa wood & tissue paper, as you can here your neighbors' every move through the walls. It's especially bad in the ground floor apartments, so if you don't like hearing constant footsteps above you, I'd suggest taking a top floor (just be sure to constantly walk on your tip toes so as not to disturb your downstairs neighbors). The Ugly: The apartment owner, Mr. Gibbons, doesn't seem to have any respect for his tenant's personal lives or their right to a peaceful & quiet enjoyment of the premises. All 80 units recently got notes on their doors saying that our units will be remodeled and rent will be raised. Every resident here is being asked to pack up ALL of our stuff - including all furniture - and completely move out of our unit for about two weeks while the remodeling is being done. We haven't been offered free rent for these two weeks, we haven't been offered anything aside from a "we are sorry for the inconvenience". Mr. Gibbons does not seem to realize that this is more than an inconvenience - it is an emotional burden which many of us simply cannot carry at this moment. Many residents have health conditions which make moving almost impossible, and many of us have demanding jobs which we would have to take time off from in order to accommodate his absurd demand. While I understand why the owner would feel the need to make essential upgrades and repairs, I do not see why he can't wait until the residents move out, like a normal property owner would! There are a lot of new tenants here who are extremely mad that they are being asked to basically move TWO MORE TIMES (into the vacant unit, then back into ours once repairs are done) so soon after moving in. Mr. Gibbons owns several properties in Redmond - the Chaparral, The Rimrock, The Obsidian, and I believe several others. I would be wary of renting anything owned by him as he clearly does not care about the people who rent from him.
