Ottawa is a small city located about eighty miles southwest of Chicago, where the Fox River and the Illinois River come together. The community makes a big deal out of preserving and celebrating its role in American history: a monument commemorates the site of the first Lincoln-Douglas debate in 1858, the preserved John Hossack House served as a station on the Underground Railroad, and the founder of the Boy Scouts of America was a longtime resident. The surrounding countryside offers a tranquil atmosphere, and the nearby Buffalo Rock, Starved Rock, and Matthiessen State Parks provide beautiful venues for spending quality time outdoors. The local rental market offers a diverse selection of apartments and single-family homes, with great options available for any budget or lifestyle.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Cedar Crossing Apartments
I rented here from 2021 to 2023. I worked the night shift and the daycare next to my building was occasionally very noisy, but other than that it was pleasant. Maintenance was reliable and quick whenever something broke. Before moving out, I cleaned/vacuumed my apartment meticulously. Even though, the land lord still took half my security deposit for fingerprints on 2 windows and very minimal grease spots inside the oven. The landlord did not provide pictures of the afflicted areas nor a breakdown of the cleaning costs.

Overall bad establishment to rent from. Don’t waste your time or money.
Just spoke with someone at the property about a studio. I own two birds, a lovebird and a cockatiel, and was asking about the pet policy. Do not be fooled by their misleading ad here. They told me dogs are not even allowed in the studios, which they fail to specify. So if you're hoping that you found a pet-friendly studio, unfortunately that is not the case. And instead of just getting back and informing me that they do not allow caged animals, she started off with a very curt tone, and said while they sometimes make exceptions, they don't usually do so for 'noisy' birds like cockatiels. She then went on at length about how the studios are close together and it would not be conducive to my birds spending all day there "chattering". When I pointed out that I felt like she was making assumptions, she said in the same curt tone, "You know what? In that case I'm just going to say that right now our policy doesnt allow caged animals". First of all, you can cage a dog or cat, and a caged animal is less likely to do damage, so I dont see what the issue is there. Second, while birds like lovebirds and cockatiels can be talkative, they are too small for their voices to project the way a larger species like a Cockatoo or Macaw can, or even a cat or dog. I've owned birds for over 25 years and know well how loud they can and cannot be. I've been renting for 4 years with these animals and never received a noise complaint, which I also told her. While this is not the first time I've come across places that don't allow birds(but will allow dogs and cats that can pee on carpeting), I've never encountered someone who was so rude about it.

We understand you are unhappy with the answers you received regarding our current pet policy. Per our phone conversation, it was explained to you that our pet policy does not typically allow for small caged animals in our units and we were working towards getting an exception for your birds. It was further explained that one of the reasons why is because chatter from birds could be disruptive to the surrounding neighbors; disruptive dogs were also mentioned in the same concern. We are responsible for the comfort of all of our residents and in some cases, that means pet companions are unfortunately not a good fit. We wish you all the best in finding a new home for you and your birds.
I moved here on my birthday weekend last year and just renewed my lease. It's very quiet, neighbors are friendly and polite. Maintenance is always on top of things. I feel very safe here. If I had one complaint it would be not enough lights in the parking lots. I'm afraid however that I may be forced to move due to my employment situation.
