Rolling Meadows is a postwar planned community about 25 miles northwest of Chicago, built by developer Kimball Hill starting in 1953 for returning WWII veterans and Chicagoans moving to the suburbs, with 700 homes sold by 1955. Salt Creek runs through the middle of town, with parks along its length and bike paths linking neighborhoods north to south. Kimball Hill Park, just north of downtown, has a pond with fishing piers, a small amphitheater, lit ball fields, and sand volleyball; the Park District's Community Center on Pheasant Drive runs most year-round programming. The commercial corridor along the southern edge near I-90 puts restaurants and retail within easy reach.
Rolling Meadows spans just six square miles in Cook County and sits roughly 12 miles from O'Hare International Airport, making it a practical base for frequent travelers. Harper College and Roosevelt University's Schaumburg campus are both within about eight miles, adding an academic presence to the area.
