Belhaven shares part of its musical heritage with Jackson, located two miles northwest, and has many local amenities such as the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science and the 305-acre LeFleur's Bluff State Park, a 305-acre park offering hiking trails, a nine-hole golf course, fishing, camping, and picnicking. The neighborhood sits just south of University of Mississippi and east of Jackson State University, and it is home (and named for) Belhaven University, located off Riverside Drive. Belhaven University is the oldest college in Jackson. Millsaps College is also located in Belhaven.
