Please Avoid Ballantyne Terrace
I have been a tenant of Ballantyne Terrace apartments for three years now. At the age of 19 with an 8 month old I decided to move from a studio to a two bedroom. Since my sister-n-law had just moved here she referred me to the manager for an open apartment. When I met with the previous manager to view the unit and give my $1500 deposit and $500 first months rent, I was denied a viewing due to the unit being cleaned and updated. Unfortunately that was not the case. After seeing the unit, which had not been cleaned and contained stained carpets that had not been vacuumed nor cleaned, dead maggots in all the kitchen cabinets, along with human hair filling the sinks, and a refrigerator and freezer that had completely molded. I demanded my money back. The manager denied giving my money. I was broke, stuck, and had nothing else to turn to. My fiance, father n law, and myself had to clean and fix the disgusting mess ourselves. It took almost a year for the owner to approve us a new fridge. Our apartment flooded a year ago due to a pipe bursting on the roof, after removing a 7ft by 2ft section of my bedroom wall and us cramming everything from our room to the kitchen and living room. We were denied a hotel room while my house was tore apart and us running the flood companies machines for 6 days with a two year old. And still with repairs out of our control they have yet to be fixed. $1100 a month for a 2br/2ba isn't worth it when you have dishonest landlords, managers, and currently a roach infestation, to where pest control comes out every month but they continue to fill the units. Now with a second child on the way and taking in my in laws who are disabled, 6 people in a 2 br is just to tight. We have sunk our own time and money here to where we are unable to move let alone afford to.
