Newton/Crown Pointe is a laid-back suburban community off the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Boating and exploring the coast at sites like Blackbeard’s Point are popular pastimes for residents. Enjoy waterfront restaurants overlooking the bay, local shops and eateries along Kecoughtan Road, and eclectic shops and restaurants in Downtown Hampton. Big-box stores and chain eateries can be found off the Interstate 64 and Highway 258 intersection, providing more convenient shopping opportunities just outside of town. Newton/Crown Pointe is also convenient to Norfolk and Chesapeake by traveling less than an hour south through the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnels.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Property Ratings at Apartments of Merrimac
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS MANAGEMENT !!! 10/29/2025 It is roach infested The walls are cheap and thin Management is unprofessional (they called the police and got me banned from the leasing office for swearing about them not doing their due diligence) They talk to you like you are their child and will act immaturely when you try to handle any kind of dispute. Maintenance is below par ONLY RENT HERE IF ITS YOUR LAST RESORT AND EVEN THEN YOU WILL REGRET IT !!!
Way to noisy. You can hear entire conversations through the vents and every step being taken. Heat wasn’t working upon move in and it’s still not after the “fix” it’s still short cycling. And good luck getting management to answer the phone. They’re nice people but business is business i guess once you sign that lease oh well. Don’t do it!!!
I lived here for a while, if you have a question for the property manager don’t expect a response anytime in this century. The garbage on the ground is disgusting, and never cleaned up. They don’t mow the weeds often. The walls and ceiling are so thin you can hear everything. Do yourself a favor and keep looking.
This was my first apartment and MS amanda helped me (RIP) she was a great help ! and new management ms linsey is great help as well and the work request be there when you need them !
Honestly I don’t know where to start, when I first arrived here I was promised a top unit apartment but was given a bottom, the leasing office excuse was “it’s the only one we have available”.The bottom unit they gave me wasn’t fully prepared, the apartment wasn’t clean,it had a closest full of someone else’s dirty clothes. Another issue and probably the biggest is that the apartment has roaches and granted when I brought this to their attention they did send an exterminator out twice,it still has roaches. The roaches where so bad that I didn’t even bother to move any furniture in,still haven’t. Another issue that I have with these apartments is that you can’t call the leasing office for anything,I’ve called multiple times about the noise complaints about the people directly above me and they say “what do you want us to do about it, call the police”.The most recent thing that has happened while here is the fact that my car was towed from the apartments! Then I was told I had to pay 125.00 in order to get my car back, the people tell me that there isn’t anything that they could do for me and to make the situation worse they tell me that the have no records of me owning a vehicle even though I have been for over 6 months and they issued me a permit. Long story short be careful if you ever decide to rent here at these apartments.
AMAZING Office staff, They are always helpful with any questions and concerns we have. Maintenance is quick to respond to any issue, and makes sure the job is done right. They have a dog park where I let my puppy play, and they have just recently started adding new grilling areas. I recommend this place to all my friends and I want to recommend it to all of you!

Thank you so much for the lovely review! We are so glad you enjoy living at The Apartments of Merrimac : )
These apartments are horrible. Do not move here! We have a 1 bed and 1 bath. My boyfriend is active duty military and I work full time . No one is home during the day . The paint on the wall is buckling from water damage, cracks in the ceiling and wood from floors are not stable. Spiders and ants everywhere. Our shower head had broken and we called them to fix it. The one they replaced it with is cheap and with no water pressure. Can't wait till lease is up. Office never answers the phone either.
