The artistic Downtown Modesto is a historic neighborhood filled with bistros, art galleries, boutiques, and more. This trendy area is very walkable and bicycle-friendly with wide sidewalks and a variety of bikeways. A variety of events and festivals are held downtown, including outdoor movies, Music in the Plaza, the International Heritage Festival, Modesto's Classic Comic Con, and the monthly First Firiday Street Faire.
While much of Modesto's historic buildings were torn down during redevelopment in the 1960s, a few remain, including the McHenry Mansion, Modesto's only remaining Victoria Home. The mansion was built in 1883 and currently operates as a house museum. The McHenry Museum is located at the corner of 14th Street and 1st Street. Downtown Modesto apartments are ideal for those who enjoy a terrific dining scene, with more than 50 restaurants in its 10-block radius.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
