The Spaulding Community of Durham encompasses a few neighborhoods south of Downtown Durham, NC. Residents of Hillside Park, Parkside, and even Rockwood have taken to the name Spaulding because of the area’s proximity to Spaulding Elementary School and the neighboring North Carolina Central University campus. This quiet section of town features affordable apartments for students of the university and families as well. Duplexes, single-family homes, and more on dense tree-lined streets remain relatively affordable, but residents are just 1.5 miles south of the city center. Hillside Park and Community Swimming Pool are a huge draw for the area. Just north of the Durham Freeway lies breweries, boutiques, coffee shops, and more, making the Spaulding Community a surprisingly eclectic addition to the Durham landscape.
