About 4545 S Drexel Blvd Chicago, IL 60653
No doubt, this is one of the most unique, 2-bedroom + office condos in all of Chicago!! The mansion was originally constructed in the 1880s and was designed by the legendary architecture firm, Burnham and Root (yes, that Burnham), for William E. Hale, an early Chicago entrepreneur that made his fortune in real estate and later the elevator business at a time when buildings were becoming taller and taller. Ironically, it was William's son (George E. Hale) who would become even more famous as one of America's greatest astronomers!! Google: "The Journey to Palomar" if you're interested in a GREAT story about George's life. Fast-forward 100+ years and in ~2002, the building was acquired by a developer and for better or for worse, was gutted and converted into condominiums with all the modern-day conveniences that the Hale family would never have imagined. As you will see from the photos, the condo has a very unique, lofted, 2-story design. Off of the living/dining room is the 2nd bedroom, which I used as a den/TV room. Attached to this room via an arched passage way and inside the turret of the mansion, lies the office. A brightly lit, octagonal room that is a joy to work in. This room would also make a lovely nursery or reading room as there is LOTS of natural light. The HUGE, lofted master-bedroom is located on the second floor up the spiral staircase. There's enough room for a desk and love sofa. The master bathroom features a jacuzzi style bathtub, a separate shower and dual sink vanity. Lastly, there are two large storage spaces.
4545 S Drexel Blvd is a condo located in Cook County and the 60653 ZIP Code.
