Located along the mouth of the Columbia River where it meets the Pacific Ocean, Astoria is a port city with a walkable, vibrant downtown, historic architecture, amazing views, and great destinations. One of those destinations predates the city itself -- Fort Astoria. The fort was established in 1811 as a fur trading post for John Astor's Pacific Fur Company. Today, a reconstructed block house and historical markers occupy the space of the former fort in Downtown Astoria at the corner of Exchange and 15th Streets.
One of Oregon's most-visited sites is located in Astoria -- the Astoria Column. Standing 600 feet above sea level, the views from the top of the column are amazing.
